Janet started her performance repertoire singing in a children’s choir in the late 90s as an adult. The choir works introduced her to American songbook standards like Gershwin, Cole Porter and icons like Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra. She then moved on to a private singing lesson, where she was exposed to songs by Mozart, Rossini, Poulenc and more.
Since then there was no turning back, Janet embraced the world of jazz standards and Western Classical music and started performing whenever she got the chance to. At the same time she has found her love in theatre too, going to any theatre outings that she could afford with her starting pay in the corporate front.
Exactly five years and eight months after Janet started her weekly singing lesson, she took the dive and became a full time performer. Learning on the job, she found all the support she needed in her growing circle of musician friends and expanded her musical horizon at all times. Janet’s current repertoire includes the casual Nat King Coles and Doris Day to serious Mozart, from Andrew Lloyd Webber to Carlos Jobim, from Zhou Xuan to Gea Lan.
Since her stint with Dama Orchestra in 2006 she has reinvented herself as the songstress for any 1920s Golden Shanghai themed parties.
To date, she has sung and performed in stage productions by Dama Orchestra, Saidah Rastam, KLPac, Lyric Opera Malaysia, Actors Studio and PAN Productions. Off the main stage, she is an active participant in concerts, recitals, cabarets, theatre workshops and more – when she is off work from her now steady stream of bookings by corporate clients and private events.
