Five years in the making, Azmyl Yunor & the Sigarettes’ “Wilayah” album finally sees the light of day at its release part on Monday 5th March 2012 at No Black Tie, Kuala Lumpur. One the most anticipated
independent releases of 2012, expect some heart-tugging laments infused with blink-and-you-miss-it-warts-and-all lo-fi sonic bursts, unlike his usual folk-tinged solo releases.
Backed by the Sigarettes, a loose coalition of various talented local musicians, including AIM-award winner Shanon Shah on piano and backing vocals, Azmyl’s humble four chord songs are now propelled into amped-up folk rock sing-along anthems. You might recognize some of the songs which have been part of his
oeuvre since hitting the gigging circuit way back in 2001 at No Black Tie.
Special guests at the release party are folk-blues troubadour Sharidir, folk-pop chanteuse Liyana Fizi (who also guests on the album), and twee-poppers Ferns – all recently fresh with new albums under their belts too. Grab ‘em here!
